Auburn Lake Trails is a participatory community, and many of its functions are fulfilled by volunteers. The official newsletter, The Trail Views, is Auburn Lake Trails monthly newsletter mailed out to all property owners and residents. The Trail Views is unique because it’s a completely volunteer operation – 'owned' by the POA membership, operated by its volunteer member staff, and prides itself on being a true membership publication.
It has been perviously published at 5-6 week intervals with rare lapses since 1974. It is now published monthly by the Georgrtown Gazette at no charge to ALT residents.
The first issue in September 1974 (Vol. I, No. 1) noted, among other things, that there were 36 children then residing fulltime in ALT, 12 Northside elementary kids and 11 high school students, who all had to be bussed to Auburn, as well as 13 pre-schoolers. 50 families were in the resident census.
That issue also announced a 'contest' to name the fledgling newsletter, and offered a free subscription to the winner. The fact that everyone got a free subscription (and still does) was completely beside the point. The winning name, was The Trail Views, was submitted by Wanda and Merv Bercovich, among ALT's very first residents. They got $1--and fame!
The following are of select stories from recent copies of The Trail Views.
